anyone know where i can rent some video equip... camera, lights, dolly... in the city?

There's plenty of places to rent that stuff. It's going to be expensive. I suggest you go to a place called Olden Camera by Macys. They have tons of used stuff for sale at reasonable prices.

I know a guy in the East Village who rents to independents a lot, check out www.productionjunction.com
