Profile Information

Name: Cheryl Akins

Artistic Medium: Illustration. My illustrations are for childrens art and publishing. I work mainly in colored pencil, acrylic and ink.

Birthplace: Virginia

Influences: Berkeley Breathed, Ian Penney, Yvonne Gilbert, Vladyslav Yerko, Grennady Spirin, and Graeme Base

How it all began...: I've always loved the art and whimsy of childrens books, but I would have to say that when I saw 'The Eleventh Hour' by Graeme Base, I was hooked for life.

In the works...: Currently, I am working on a series of illustrations based on the Russian folktale, The Stone Flower.

Down the road...: My ultimate dream is to create a picture book for children where they create the story by and the story unfolds with every page they turn. There would never be a 'wrong' story -- every story, every time, would be just right and just perfect.

About me in general...: I've been an artist/illustrator ever since I could grasp a crayon and create on the walls of my family home. I love color and detail -- the more, the better! And with every illustration I create, I am forever working to be a better artist and illustrator -- there is always room to grow and improve.

if you could collaborate with/meet any artist, past or present, who would it be?: Vladyslav Yerko. I admire his work completely and absolutely. His work is incredible and it would be an honor and a privilege to simply meet him and discuss his works.
