Risking Ridiculous

So this message greets me as I arrive here today
its red flag baiting my bull
to chase
surely you know that my tortured soul cannot resist
another chance to embarrass me
by suggesting to you that I share your most intimate secret
I know about that idea you have
yah that one...
so dangerous to expose that you keep it locked tight
like a clenched fist in your gut
opened silent and seldom to your heart
to marvel and examine and wonder
do others think like this
is it possible that I am alone
why does this thing persist in me
damn, its a good idea I know it is
but its different and its difficult and its crazy
and I cannot risk their loathing, that derisive laughter
much worse that sneer of diffidence or
such fear and anger
that men in white coats chase me with nets
best I tuck it away again
or maybe...I could pretend with it
make it part of a play...an opera perhaps
whose tragic ending
has me realize
just as the airtight door of death descends
that I want nothing more
than to flee wild with glee
screaming
my ridiculous secret.
